The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Central Luzon, in support to the government’s efforts to modernize the country’s salt industry, continued with the profiling and assessment of existing salt producers in the province of Bulacan.
Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz led the site visits to 2 solar salt farms in this province; one 80-hectare farm in San Nicolas, Bulakan and another 18 hectares in Wawang Namayan in Malolos. These salt farms were identified with the help and the support of the Provincial and Municipal Agriculture Offices.
The site assessment and validation was conducted to target existing salt farmers and producers as well as fisher folk groups seeking to adopt the latest technologies to improve production and revive their operation. The BFAR was tasked to lead various research and development initiatives on salt production and assist marginal and artisanal salt makers.
“We are working double time to beef up support for the salt industry to enhance production of local salt in Central Luzon,” RD Cruz said.
Just a few weeks ago, RD Cruz also headed the salt site validation in the province of Zambales. (photos of FB/DL)
