The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 3 held the opening program for the 61st Fish Conservation Week with a theme of “Sama-sama Tungo sa Maunlad at Likas-kayang Pangisdaan sa Bagong Pilipinas” on September 16, 2024, at the BFAR 3 Regional Office Training Hall. The day’s festivities set the stage for a week-long celebration of sustainable fishing and aquatic resource management.
The opening program commenced with a recorded opening message by Mr. Isidro Velayo, Jr., the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) National Director of BFAR. His message resonated strongly through an AVP, highlighting the national agency’s commitment to advancing fish conservation and fostering sustainable fishing practices across the Philippines.
The Regional Director, Mr. Wilfredo M. Cruz, also shared his keynote address. Emphasizing the theme of the celebration, Director Cruz amplified the importance of collaborative efforts in the pursuit of sustainable fisheries management.
As BFAR 3 embarks on this week of celebration, the focus remains on fostering a more sustainable and prosperous future for the fisheries sector. The celebration not only marks a significant milestone in the history of fish conservation but also sets the stage for continued efforts toward achieving a thriving and balanced aquatic ecosystem in the Philippines.
